This time of year everyone makes New Year's Resolutions. Most involve relationships or quitting smoking or something like that. But hey you're in college and there is always time to start again. Here are some ideas.
Lose the freshmen 15 - Whether the freshman 15 is real or not, it is always good to get into shape. At your young age you have metabolism that's runs like a Ferrari. Even just a little dieting and exercise can make you lose that weight in no time. Most school s have gyms and rec centers that offer everything from swimming to weights to special classes and even rock climbing walls.
Better grades - Whether you are a genius or slacker there is undoubtedly room for improved grades. Everyone has a class they struggle with or even blow off. Decide now to discipline yourself and study more. Create some extra time dedicated just for studying. Join a study group, get tutoring and work with your professor. Many textbooks offer online practice material as well. Look, these days a college degree is a pretty common thing to have. Good grades will make you stand out above the rest.
Continue your education - Being in the armed services can have many benefits, one is a free education. If you are or have been in the military then resolve to capitalize on your opportunity and finish your education. There are several military programs that will cover the cost of college like the Army G.I. Bill or even ROTC. You have sacrificed much for your country, take advantage of these chances while you can.
Keep your dorm clean - Okay most schools can't afford maids and if you can you are darn lucky. Guys, we know girls can be messy, but you especially need help. Having a roommate isn't easy but resolve to keep your dorm clean. Keep your clothes off the floor, sweep and mop the floor. Dust the furniture and make your bed. WASH YOUR SHEETS. It seems like no college student ever things to wash their sheets until they start growing fungus. But wait, there is more.
Keep your bathroom clean - This goes hand and hand with the dorm. You probably have to share your bathroom with three other people, so the need to keep it clean is even more magnified. You may need to coordinate with the others to pick a time you can all clean together, but it is worth the effort.
Party Less - Parties are fun, but vomiting, hangovers and missing class or work is not. Late nights and drunken binges ruin your grades and over health and productivity. No one is saying don't party, just resolve to reign it in some.
See? It's not so bad. Just pick one thing to work on and you will be happy you did.
