Virtually every day we are reminded by the media of the problem of pollution - which we have caused - and the direct consequence thereof, global warming. Some of you may feel obliged to do something but you may not know what to do or where to get started. Well, you don't have to go out saving whales or putting out forest fires to assist, you just need to simply follow a couple of easy tips to make a difference! Below are a few things you can do.
1. Whenever possible, work on a laptop rather than a desktop computer Computers today are widely used, with hundreds applications. Since they're fifty percent more energy efficient, always look to use a laptop instead of a regular desktop PC. Also, never mind being cheaper, laptops are light and compact and can be taken along to nearly all places you go to.
2. Try to walk instead of drive Cars and pollution are the same in my mind. Autos are terrible polluters because they burn fuel, causing deadly gases to be released into the air. Vehicles are used all over the world daily, so overall they release a lot of gases that are damaging to the environment. To make less of a damaging impact on the environment, we should walk instead of drive. There are times when walking is simply not realistic, but, when it is, do it! Next time you want to the corner shop, choose to walk. You'll get some exercise, save money, and decrease your personal tally of gas emissions.
3. Don't leave the faucet running when you're brushing your teeth Water is used in everything, from cooking to laundry to keeping radiators warm so it's no wonder so much of it is wasted each day. Leaving the water to run while you brush your teeth is wasteful. It's a considerable amount of water that runs out of the tap in the two minutes of brushing your teeth. A good idea is to merely fill a cup with water and use that to rinse your mouth out as less water goes to waste.
4. Having a shower uses less water Take a shower instead of a bath, because it's been proven to be more efficient in terms of both water and power consumption. Nonetheless, this doesn't hold true if your showers are 20 minutes long! A brief shower is helpful; if it becomes a long one, choosing a bath may well have been better!
5. Remember to turn the lights off If you are going out of a room, try not to leave the light switched on. If a room doesn't have anyone in it, what is the use of leaving a light switched on? You will be able to save money, not waste energy and benefit the environment by doing this. When there's sunlight outside, don't turn on the inside lights because the sunlight will provide lots of light to your house.
Following these helpful tips shouldn't cost you anything. In fact, they'll probably save you money. So heed the invitation - start living green.
