Famous Stanford Students

Stanford University is along side of Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Stanford creates a certain type of graduate, alumni have progressed to mold the globe in both subtle and overt forms. The goal of this write-up is to underline these notable students and graduates in their relative areas including sport, showbiz and politics.

William Hewlett & Dave Packard

Stanford students William Hewlett and Dave Packard first designed the Hewlett Packard in a garage, later moving to Silicon Valley. The location of Stanford and Silicon Valley is no coincidence. The reason is because Stanford graduate's have been pivitol to its development and it is noted as one of the main center's of the worlds technology.

Herbert Hoover

US Presidents to have attended Stanford include John Kennedy and Herbert Hoover. It may surprise and intrigue you, however, to learn that as one graduated another did not. Kennedy actually left prematurely in 1942, while Hoover finished. Hoover famous lays claim to be Stanford's first student, as he was the first to actually sleep on campus. Other figures from around world politics include Ehud Barak, Yukio Hatoyama and Condoleezza Rice.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon, star of many Hollywood films, leads a number of Showbiz stars who have attended Stanford University. Others include, A Beautiful Mind star, Jennifer Connolly, Ted Danson and Sigourney Weaver. Incredibly though, only Weaver graduated as the others finished prematurely to concentrate on their careers, or in Danson's case, transfer. Weaver graduated in 1972 earning a bachelor in Arts.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is perhaps the best known athlete to have graced Stanford. Woods enrolled at Stanford in 1994 under a Golf scholarship. He left 2 years later to pursue his career in sport. Soccer player, Ryan Nelson, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur is another graduate. While at Stanford, Nelson was ranked MVP and left with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
