This allows one to be careful and be aware of any misconduct that an individual has done. Authorities also use the document in a criminal investigation. The record contains information that can be helpful to solve a crime and sometimes it can resolve the case.

A lot of information can be found on a criminal record. In New York, the state indicates the information of the convicted individual such as the complete name, address and date of birth. One can also find the physical description of the individual such as body markings like tattoo and scars. Relevant information such as details about the conviction, arrest, sentence and dispositions can also be found on the document. It also indicates other misdemeanors that the individual has done along with the names of the people who are involved with the incident.

The state of New York allows only selected people to access a certain record. One can request for their own criminal records. Authorized persons such as law enforcement agencies can also request for a criminal record of a certain individual. The requesting individual has to provide two valid identification forms such as any government issued ID. One has to pay $61.50 to process the request. The request can be done through a mail or phone order. The process may take several days to complete.

New York criminal records are archived at the Department of Criminal Justice Services at the Criminal Identification Unit. The fingerprints of the convicted individual are also included on the criminal file. Criminal records of the state can also be requested at the state police department. The retrieval of the criminal record using the Internet proves to be a lot faster and convenient for most of the residents. One can do a free criminal records search but the results may not be helpful and useful than that of a paid search. The result of a paid search is more accurate thus it can be used right away even in court proceedings.
