It Makes Sense To Have A 2 Drum Spill Pallet

By Bette Gay

The 2 drum spill pallet is an oasis of help. The push for tougher environmental laws has created a new dynamic within industries that use chemicals. There are tougher standards to follow in maintaining these chemicals. In the event of a leak, there are prescribed steps that should be taken. And these steps must be documented and filed for potential inspection by outside auditors.

Gone are the days where small spills of chemicals onto the ground can be passed by. The monitoring and controlling of storm water runoff prohibits this. If a business is mindful to adhere to all of the rules, these should also be upheld. Even beyond the environment the safety and well being of their employees should be important. These rules, although a plus for the environment, can be over the top because all chemicals are not hazardous. It is better to error on the side of caution, however.

Two drum spill pallets provide assurance against the leaking of chemicals. In the cases where businesses do not have current space or available funds to provide proper chemical storage along with an area for spill containment, this is definitely the best option. Businesses can grow at rates faster than their ability to plan for and create proper chemical storage areas that contain spills.

In many cases this includes concrete work with the dredging of deep perimeter troughs. This is work that usually cannot be done overnight. The pallet is a portable containment area that is constructed to adhere to the rigors of environmental laws.

Unlike a solid concrete area, the pallet can be moved anywhere. The better engineered pallets will possess the ability to be picked up with a fork lift from any of the 4 sides. This eliminates being cornered into a less than safe relocation of it. The spill insurance device should be chemical resistant and able to handle chemical drums with standard industry dimensions.

When they have decks or grates the pallets can serve as more than storage places. They serve as dispensing stations. When chemicals are to be dispensed in remote locations or if human workers are needed to ferry chemicals over long distances, this is an approach that can reduce cost.

With respect to cost, it could take hours to contain spills, clean them up, and then finish all the necessary environmental paperwork. It could stall an installation or general business operations. And, depending on the type of chemicals spilled, the credibility in the community could suffer. Sometimes what is read in the media is just enough for the wrong conclusions to be drawn. This is a cost that can be very difficult to assess or recover from.

Whether selected in a stainless steel or polyethylene form, the best pallets should have a drain and plug that allows for easy transfer of spilled chemicals as well as cleaning. Otherwise spillage onto the ground could still be a possibility. Spillage capacity should be above fifty gallons. A 2 drum spill pallet serves many purposes. It is without a question a solid investment to make.
