By Jody Leach

You are dead keen to do physical work and love creating and building structures. You are no longer enthusiastic to take on small structures; skyscrapers are your passion. You are adamant and strong willed enough to venture being a crane driver; but it is a must to be NCCCO Rigging certified before you can even think about taking on such huge projects.

Once you have acquired enough skill, you would like to apply to be in Crane Management. You shall be the best qualified at your job and ensure all work is done on site, safely and accurately. This is an incredible goal with such great potential.

Firstly you will need to do the training. There are many institutions that offer this training. You can hopefully get your current construction company to sponsor you, as this is not the cheapest course available. There is plenty of information on the internet for research purposes.

It will be best to pick the most suitable course for you. You can do the training online and in your own time, if you have already been using a crane and only require to be certified. It may be advisable to do the full course whereby you shall get physical experiences, should you not have had too much time spent driving a real crane, as the tools are not to be taken lightly.

One of the key functions of a Crane Manager is safeguarding and security on the job. There are so many duties that are associated with the job. All counties worldwide have their own set of procedures that a building contractor has to perform on site. Never mind all the procedures that the physical building has to comply with. The course you go on will need to provide you with a well rounded foundation on all the topics.

You will also need to learn about all the different types of cranes available on the market, as each crane will have different capabilities. The training required for the certificate will require you to be older than 18 and pass a written and practical exam. Some institutions cover the training on two levels. Each level covering a variety of topics, from inspecting the crane before you can use it, to hazard control, to load movement and hoisting. If you were a boy scout this may help you with the knots you will have to learn, also the use of slings and tag lines.

This can be a very invigorating career, to have such ability in your hands. Though never forget this is a risky job and has many dangers. If you are not positive this is the career for you or awkward with the gear and your mathematics is not up to scratch to best decide how move loads safely, please have a look again and consider taking on a new career choice.

It is recommended that you spend some time on a construction site and get all the correct information before you venture getting your rigging certification. It can be a fruitful career, only if it is the right path and choice for you. Good luck.
